Infrastructural facilities are a prerequisite to carry out the multifarious activities in the KVK. Emphasizing this, the KVK has given majorthrust to develop the infrastructure facilities. Administrative block, hostel and staff quarters are the three basic facilities developed in view of the present as well as future needs. In administrative block each department has been given sufficient area for their activities. Two lecture halls, one conference hall and one auditorium with 300 seating capacity are being utilized as per needs and requirements of participants. One library for the farmers and laboratory as per the needs of the department were also developed. The Administrative building is having total area of 10,500 sq. ft. Hostel facilities including lodging and boarding have been developed for 60 participants. One an average 60 to 70 per cent utilization of the hostel facilities due to various on campus training programmes is observed. Total area of the hostel is 6000 sq. ft. In view of the additional activities of the KVK and future plans, KVK has developed Information and Biotechnology Center. In this center bioagents production, quality testing, certification is being carried out.
In this Information Technology Center all the facilities regarding the information communication technology has been developed like KVK Pravara COMMUNITY Radio Center, Library and IT Center for farmers, exhibition center, conference hall and other activities for faster communication of the technology. This center is constructed on 14,000 sq. ft. area. KVK has developed all these facilities separately as a KVK campus.
After inception of KVK, it was observed that important agricultural technologies were not properly and intensively adopted due to lack of skill as well untimely availability of the required inputs and services. Imparting skill to the farmers for increasing the adoption of agricultural technologies was an important activity identified by KVK.
Established during the year 1995 with production capacity of 10,000 grafts per annum which is now expanded up to 2 lakh per annum. Grafts/ seedlings of pomegranate, guava, mango, drumstick and other horticulture crops are produced in this nursery. Similarly training programmes is also organized to impart the skill to the rural youths.
For production of biofood (blue green algae) and impart training to this new concept, Spirulina production unit is established during the year 2002. Both race way tank as well as rectangular tanks are constructed for production of spirulina. Total production capacity of this unit is 40 to 50 kg per annum. Since inceptions of unit 17 courses.
To convert crop residue in organic manure/ compost, earthworm plays important role through which we can produce vermicompost. With vermicompost self employment in rural area is possible. Therefore, KVK established vermicompost unit during the year 1996 of 50 t/annum capacity.
As per the problems of the major crops and the available technology to control the pests and diseases. KVK has started the production of bio-pesticides like trichoderma, verticilium, paecilomyces, nomuraea, beauveria basiana from 1998 on large scale. Good quality, fresh bo-pesticides have helped to give effective control of pests & diseases.
With increasing awareness among the farmers due to various programmes implemented by KVK, State Agriculture Department and SAU, there was ahigher demand from the farmers for bio-fertilizers. However availability of fresh and good quality bio-fertilizers in rural area was a main problem.
The KVK started goat unit to impart the skill for rural youths so that they can start their own goat units. For imparting skill to rural youths, KVK started goat unit during the year 1998. KVK introduced Osmanabadi and Boar breed in this unit. Similarly trained 709 rural youths through this unit
KVK has focused more on upgradation of local poultry birds. From inception of KVK RIR, Giriraja, Grampriya, Vanaraja, Swarnddhara breed are introduced. KVK established poultry unit in the year 1995 to maintain the parent flocks of these improved breeds.
Food processing unit like fruits & vegetable processing, vegetable processing are established in KVK during the year 1999. This unit is being used to impart the skill to farmwomen about processing of different agriculture produce. More than 300 women have been trained in this unit
To impart the skill about advanced tailoring and beauty parlor for employment generation of women, these units were established by KVK. In this course more than 500 women were trained.
KVK is developing A.V.Aids like slides, VCDs, Audio CDs and various exhibition materials. All these materials is produced in house which is used for KVK as well as supplied to various departments.
KVK has 24.00 ha land for the instructional purposes which represents the district situation. Soil of the farm is mainly divided in three types i.e. verylight soil (8 ha), light soil (10 ha) and medium soil (6 ha)
